Toulouse Lautrec
Day 1
Henri de Toulouse Lautrec
“At the Moulin Rouge”
Day 2 Henri de Toulouse Lautrec “At the Moulin Rouge”
Part of the Post-Impressionist movement because he did not want to paint landscapes
He preferred to depict the dynamic human figure, often in fleeting and specific moments
His choice of subject matter was not from the middle or upper classes,
but rather the “grittier” subjects found in bars and brothels.
He represented reality without criticizing or sweetening it.
“Limelight”- term coined from the greenish glow caused by a chemical reaction of
calcium oxide and an open flame.
Lights were mounted on the stage instead of above it which caused faces to be under-lit.
